Are We There Yet?
Time to put the word back into wordpress! I took a short break from posting while I completed the first written task for an MA in TESOL. Will be posting bilingualism related interestingness from the course texts later I am sure. So, right back to books that help your child to develop their language skills. This one was recommended by an Australian friend and it represents a real step up from simple story/picture books to educational reading.
Written by Alison Lester and published in 2004 (penguin books), this beautifully illustrated and narrated book follows a family on their trip around Australia. It is written from the perspective of the eight year old daughter (middle of three) and simply blends the geography and experiences of the journey into an easy to understand narrative.
It took us two or three days to read through the book. Each double page contains a wealth of pictures and information and so there is plenty to talk about with your eager young learner. Having never been to Australia, it was an education for me too. Thoroughly recommend this for children of 4 up.
